
More of Panzer Dragoon can't possibly be a bad thing, and if Panzer Saga has many of the same elements as the previous two installments, then Sega will have a huge hit on their hands. Panzer Saga will have characters to fully interact with, but as to what extent, we don't know yet. We're also not sure at this point how exactly role-playing will work its way into a traditional shooter game. Either this means fighting will be done in the vein of Final Fantasy games (realtime with menus), or it will be in a shooting style like in previous Panzer games.

Now, Sega is telling us that the battles will be in realtime 3-D.

On the E3 demo we played in early 1997, combat was handled with a menu-driven system. The dragon itself can morph into several possible forms (each with its own special abilities) with time and experience. You can pick up a variety of different weapons including locking pulse guns and lightning strikes. Since the game never got released to the PC, who kind of hope that SEGA will obtain the source code from GameTap and re-release it in Steam. Unfortunately, this version never saw the light of day as gametap closed. Panzer Dragoon Saga PC was supposed to be the last big thing from that company. According to Varanini, the GameTap guys rewrote the entire game for their GameTap client service – and they might still have the source code of the PC version. Despite critical acclaim that’s only grown in the intervening years, the game has. This is something unexpected and we are really surprised with the fact that it was never released to other services, even via the digital distribution services. This April marks 25 years since Panzer Dragoon Saga’s North American release for the ill-fated Sega Saturn. Giancarlo Varanini revealed at the latest Giantbomb Podcast that GameTap had a working PC version of Panzer Dragoon Saga when he was working at the company.
